Ans. She founded 'Torang', a tribal rights and cultural centre in Kotari Village, Ranchi district in Jharkhand. Suryamani works to save the forest where she lives and preserve her tribal culture with her community.

Ans. Clearance, or clearing is the removal of a forest or stand of trees from land which is then converted to a non-forest use. Deforestation can involve the conversion of forest land to farms, ranches, or urban use.

 "A tribe is a group of people in a primitive or barbarous stage of development. The tribal people also practice Hunting and gathering. Most of the tribal population lives in villages. Their Houses are mostly made of mud.


Q7. What is Jhoom Farming?

Jhum cultivation is also called shifting cultivation, and it is practised on small patches of land, mostly in forests. The tribal cultivators cut the treetops to allow sunlight onto the ground and burnt the vegetation on the land to clear it for cultivation.

Q9. What is the Right to Forest Act 2007?

ANS. The act states that people who have lived in the forest for at least 25 years have the right to the forest land and what grows on it. It also states that these people should not be removed from the forest and that the Gram Sabha should be responsible for protecting the forest.
