All kinds of labour must be considered respectfully
No work should be considered dirty or low.
Many people help us to keep our neighbourhood green and clean.
None of us can do all the work by ourselves.
Different people do different kinds of work.
Mahatma Gandhi regarded all the work equally important.
Answer the following:
1. What is meant by the dignity of labour?
Ans . The respect given to all kinds of labour is known as
dignity of labour.
2. What is the division of labour?
3. How should you treat the people who help you?
Ans . We should treat the people as our equals.
4. What is work?
Ans . Work is a job that a person does mostly to earn
money.
5. We should not be ashamed of any work.

Ans . Work is worship and no work is high or low. So we should
not be ashamed to do any work.
6. Who were untouchables?
Ans . In our society who do menial work have been regarded as
lowly and are placed on the lowest level of the social ladder.
They were called as untouchables. Gandhiji named
untouchables as Harijans, Harijans means people of God.
7. Does untouchability still exist in India?
Ans. No, untouchability has been abolished in our country. It
is now a punishable offence.
8. What are called essential services?
Ans. The services that we depend upon whom or we need every
day in a society are called essential services.
9. Write a few lines about the great soul of Mahatma Gandhiji.
Ans. Mahatma Gandhiji was an extraordinary person.
Ans .
He was the undisputed leader of the Indian freedom movement.
He was a person who practised what he preached.
Gandhi wanted us to honour and respect all occupations.
He did not feel shy to do any work. He used to spin cotton
for his own clothes.
He also cleaned toilets because he wanted to change the
attitude of the people towards the so-called dirty work.
He opposed untouchability and discrimination against
people who did menial jobs.
10. How do we depend on essential services?
Ans . We all are dependent on one another to provide essential
services needed in society. None of us can do all the work
by ourselves. Different people do different work so we
should never look down on others' work.

Ans . Dr. BhimRao Baba sahib Ambedkar.
