EXPERIMENT WITH WATER

 EXPERIMENT WITH WATER

TLO

1. You will be able to Observe experiments with water which are related to everyday life.

2. You will be able to  identify the things that float, sink, soluble and insoluble in water- Learning by doing

3. You will be able to  get the information about dead sea.

Q1. What are the three forms of water?

Ans: Solid – Ice, Liquid – Water, Gaseous – Water vapour

4) Paper and wood floats in water

5) Puffed puri floats in hot oil because the hot air inside is light and moves

SA

1) Define Evaporation

Ans: 1) The process of water changing into water vapour is called

evaporation.

2) Define Condensation.

Ans: The process of water vapour changing into water is called

condensation.

3) Define the Solution.

Ans: A mixture is formed when a substance is dissolved into

a liquid.

4) Give reason: oil does not dissolve in water?

Ans: Oil is lighter than water so it floats in water.

5) What happens when salt is added to the water in which eggs are

boiled?

Ans: When salt is added to the water, it becomes denser and

heavier than eggs. So, the eggs float in water.

Q. Why iron nail sink in water but bowl floats?

Ans.The density of nail (as of iron) is much larger than the water. So it sinks easily. The weight of the water displaced by the ship is equal to its weight, so it floats. Whereas the weight of the waterdisplaced by the iron nail is less than its weight so the iron nail sinks.

Q Explain the dead sea?

The Dead Sea is the saltiest sea in the world. One litre of the Dead Sea water

contains around 300 gms of salt in it. The water of the dead sea will be very salty to

taste. The interesting fact about the Dead Sea is a person will never drown but will

float in it due to the high density of Salt in the water.

What was the dandi march?

Britishers made a law in which they did not allow the Indians to

make salt and they also put a Tax on salt. People could not make salt even for use at

home. So In1930, Gandhiji along with several people undertook a march of about 240 miles from

Sabarmati ashram to Dandi seashore in Gujarat to break the law made by the British. This March is

 called Dandi March.
